Fan the Heat

Help Columbia residents stay cool and become a part of the Fan the Heat program by donating a fan or air conditioner this summer. Fan the Heat is, "designed to help Columbia's seniors and families who have children living with physical challenges," Chief Dean Crisp said. Donated fans and air conditioners are accepted throughout the year, but the program kicks into high gear between June and September, the hottest parts of the year.

If you wish to help Fan The Heat by donating a fan or air conditioner or by making a monetary donation can call Columbia police at 545-3555.

Cooling Stations The Columbia Fire Department now has seven cooling stations for Columbia citizens to enjoy. Each park station has a mister that will be turned on at noon on days when the forecasted high is 90 degrees or higher, and will remain on until around 7 pm. Enjoy a refreshing spray during the hottest hours of the day.

Parks and Recreation Pools Open to Public City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department announces another way to remain cool this summer. Greenview Pool and Maxy Gregg Park pool will be open to the public and free of charge until Labor Day weekend. Public hours will be as follows:

Greenview Pool, located 6700 David Street: Monday- closed Tuesday- Friday 1- 6 Saturday- 10- 6 Sunday 2-6

Maxcy Gregg Pool, located 1650 Park Circle: Monday- Thursday 1- 7 pm Friday- closed Saturday 10 am- 6 pm Sunday 2- 6 pm

Help to Senior Citizens Community Safety Officers will be checking on elderly citizens in their assigned neighborhoods to ensure that they have an appropriate amount of water available and to make referrals to the Fan the Heat Program, if necessary.
