Ready, set, zoom at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden Calling all amateur photographers, Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is hosting its first garden photography contest. The deadline for submissions is October 31, and the winners will be announced in December. "Photography is an art, and we believe the Botanical Garden is a work of art," said Satch Krantz, executive director of Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. "This is a fun and seamless way to blend the two together. It's a win- win for all. The winner of the contest will get to showcase their talent throughout different venues at the Zoo and Garden." Individuals interested in entering the contest must submit photographs taken only at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. Entries will be judged in the following five categories: black and white, floral or plant close- up, garden overview, critters in the Garden, and youth photo (open only to children ages 10 through 16). A Best Photo Award will be chosen by a panel of judges from each of these five categories. The judges aren't the only ones who will get to have their say in the contest. There will be a Viewer's Choice Award online for the general public to select their favorite out of the top 20 photographs. The winners in each category will receive a private, after- hours photo shoot in the Zoo or Garden, as well as a special package of flowering bulbs.
