The Diversity Leadership Academy is an outgrowth of the Richard W. Riley Institute of government, politics, and public policy at Furman Institute.
The Riley Institute was created to educate, inform, and engage students, teachers, and community leaders about civic duties, government, and public policy. A variety of programs and conferences touch upon issues from urban politics, women in politics, to international politics.
Realizing that the population of South Carolina has become increasingly diverse, the Riley Institute and the American Institute for Managing Diversity teamed up to create the Diversity Leadership Academy.
The DLA meets annually to discuss issues about all facets of diversity and create community- building projects. Issues from education and medical to government and civic responsibilities are discussed, and participants develop diversity management skills to help improve a diverse community.
