The National
Anthem could be heard throughout the halls of Dent Middle School Friday,
September 14, 2007 as every homeroom class stood to sing in unison.
As part of the first National Anthem Day at Dent Middle School, two eighth grade students, Kihana Pelzer and John Magrady, led the school over the loud speaker.
Pelzer and Magrady auditioned and were chosen among a number of students by Choir Director Heidi Collar.
Collar worked with choir classes and several other
classes throughout the
week teaching them the history of The National Anthem and rehearsing the lyrics, too.
Not only did the students at Dent Middle School sing the song, so did the faculty and the custodial staff.
Collar's goal of sharing the history of The National
Anthem paid off, and paved the way for the success of future National Anthem
Days at Dent Middle School.
