Marina Capilos Papadea

Service for Marina Capilos Papadea, 93, was held Friday, September 21, 2007, at 9 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation was Thursday, September 20, 6- 7 pm with Trisagion Prayers at 7 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carolina Children's Home, 3201 Trenholm Road, Columbia, S.C. 29204 or to a charity of one's choice. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge.

Mrs. Papadea, wife of the late Nicholas Apostolas Papadea, died Tuesday, September 18, 2007. She was born in Arahova, Greece, the daughter of the late Demosthenes Agamemnon Capilos and Barbara Nicholas Harakas Capilos. She immigrated with her parents in 1914 through Ellis Island, N.Y.

Mrs. Papadea met her future husband, Nicholas Apostolos Papadea, in Charlotte, N.C., and they were married December 9, 1934, in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Charlotte.

Mrs. Papadea was the founder and co- owner, with her husband, of the famous Market Restaurant on Assembly Street and The Varsity Grill on North Main Street.

She was a founding member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Columbia and a member of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Myrtle Beach. She was a member of the St. Katherine's Philoptochos Society for over 65 years and served several terms as treasurer. Until recently, she was actively involved each year in the Greek Community's major fundraising events by helping prepare and sell homemade Greek pastries at the Columbia Greek Festival.

Surviving are her daughter, Christina Papadea of Charleston; sons: Apostolos Nicholas "Nick" Papadea and his wife, Mary of Columbia, and Demosthenes Nicholas "Jim" Papadea of Columbia; sister, Tracy Cardone of Columbia; three grandchildren: Nicholas Apostolos Papadea and his wife, Meredith; Nicholas Demosthenes "Jim" Papadea; and Katherine Marina "Kate" Papadea; and one great- granddaughter, Ella Marina Papadea.
