After a surprising start by Dreher at Memorial Field September 21, Blythewood settled into their normal routine of quick- strike offense scoring 46 unanswered points en route to a 46- 20 victory. Richard Mounce threw for 180 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another keeping the Bengals atop Region III- AAA and extending their winning streak to 19 games.

Dreher opened the game with a long kickoff return by Ardamian Player giving the Blue Devils the ball on the Blythewood 40- yard line. New running back Sheldon Van Dyke, a converted lineman, plowed through the Bengal front and quarterback Jacob Gindman tossed a third- down pass to Chris Hickman to give the Blue Devils first- and- goal from the 2- yard line. Van Dyke finished the drive in style with a powerful touchdown run just three minutes into the game.

While the Blythewood faithful seemed stunned, quarterback Richard Mounce and the Bengal offense clearly were not fazed. Scoring on drives of 4, 2, and 2 plays, Mounce led Blythewood up and down the field with ease. A 7- yard touchdown run by James Wilkerson, a 33- yard keep by Mounce and a 38- yard beautifully high- arching pass on a post route to Marquan Jones gave the Bengals a 25- 7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Dreher contributed to the score by snapping two long- snaps in a row over punter Kurt Stoudenmire's head, both resulting in safeties.

In the second quarter, the Blue Devils realized they would have to pass to be successful against Blythewood. Gindman connected on several passes to wide receiver Ethan Caulder and tight end Jamie Chappell to give the Blue Devils some offensive movement. Penalties and lack of execution slowed Dreher, however, and gave Blythewood more opportunities to score. After Jones returned a punt for a touchdown that was called back due to an illegal block in the back, Blythewood marched 91 yards over five minutes resulting in a 20- yard Mounce to Donald Gladden touchdown pass. By the end of the first half the Bengals held an insurmountable 32- 7 lead.

Blythewood opened the second half with the ball and proceeded to run straight down the field once again. A 15- yard run by Wilkerson and a 37- yard run by C.J. Edwards put the Bengals deep in Blue Devil territory. Mounce threw a 26- yard touchdown pass to Jones that was called back for offensive pass interference, but later a Dreher roughing the passer penalty kept the drive alive. An 11- yard touchdown run by Wilkerson made the score 39- 7 with 7:04 left in the third. Dreher punted again on their next possession and on the first play for Blythewood, C.J. Edwards rumbled 35 yards for another touchdown and a 46- 7 lead.

Dreher passed its way to its second score late in the third quarter as Tyler Shiver Beverett and Caulder used slant and short out patterns to get open. Gindman scampered into the endzone on a quarterback keep with 15 seconds left in the third to bring the score to 46- 14. The Blue Devils took advantage of several Blythewood penalties and a crafty fake punt in the fourth quarter leading to a 5- yard Hickman touchdown run. With the extra point missed, the score reached its final, 46- 20.

Dreher travels to Fairfield- Central to look to improve on their tough start while Blythewood seeks to extend its winning streak in a game at Camden on Friday, September 28.
