USC DAR honors Jim Hamilton
By Lauren Dunn

Second Vice Regent Betty Jones present Jim Hamilton with the USC Chapter of DAR's 2007 Community Service Award.
The USC chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented the 2007 Community Service Award on October 10, 2007. Second- Vice Regent Betty Jones presented the award, which recognizes worthy residents from a variety of walks of life, for voluntary achievements in cultural, educational, humanitarian, patriotic, historical, and citizenship endeavors, or in environmental conservation. This year's recipient was Mr. Jim Hamilton.

Hamilton is a true humanitarian. He seeks ways to help and serve others. Every Wednesday he transports Christopher Towers' residents to do their shopping. He spends the whole morning with the group, brings them home, and helps unload their merchandise.

Hamilton is also involved in dozens of boards and charity organizations. He counsels fourth graders against drugs through the Rotary Club, recruits bellringers for the Salvation Army, and actively educates children about aviation in an effort to instill a sense of adventure, strong discipline, and good teamwork skills.

He established the Jamil Flying Fezzes in 1974, an organization of pilots who fly sick children whenever there is a need, free of charge.

It was a pleasure for the USC DAR to present this award to Jim Hamilton in recognition of his efforts to go the extra mile to help those who are not in a position to help themselves.
