A.C. Flora Math Team scores touchdown
Contributed by A. C. Flora High School

Five A.C. Flora High School students tackled some big math problems to win a football- themed math competition sponsored by the NFL's Carolina Panthers.

The A.C. Flora Math Team defeated seven teams from the Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools to win the Carolina Panthers' Numbers Crunch Full Contact Math competition October 23 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The Flora Math Team is the first South Carolina high school to take the top honors in the five- year history of the competition.

Coached by Patrick Rybarczyk, members of the Flora Math Team who competed were Ian Taylor, Victoria Buckingham, Sean Soni, Meredith Nix, and Ella Soltz.

The team was awarded a beautiful wooden football trophy; each student received a book bag, a T- shirt, and two tickets to the October 28 Panthers vs Colts (last year's Super Bowl Champions) game in Charlotte. During the game, the Flora Math Team will be presented a $2,000 check.
