Grandparent tells WHOPPING fish tale
Contributed by Jim Kitchens

Burgess Mills III with his 13 pound catch
Above is a picture of two large mouth bass that my grandson, Burgess Mills III, a sophomore at Wofford, recently caught. Our family has some property with an 18- acre lake outside of North, S.C. where Burgess was fishing with a buddy, Harrison Bowen. Burgess was bottom fishing with a saltwater rig that had a one ounce weight and two hooks. He put a small bream, about three inches long on each hook and cast it out in the deepest part of the lake. Something hit it like a ton of bricks. Burgess set the hook and started reeling, knowing it was something big. All of a sudden, not one but two bass came out of the water trying to spit out the hooks. When Burgess saw this he about fell in the lake from excitement. Fortunately, he had Harrison with him who helped by netting the fish. One weighed exactly seven pounds and the other just under six pounds. How about that - 13 pounds of fish on one line!

Presently, I am in the process of having them mounted. Burgess will have bragging rights in the family for a long time!

Burgess is the grandson of Jim and Sally Kitchens and Buzz and Helen Mills. His parents are Frances and Burgess Mills.

For interested fishermen, Burgess was fishing with a Pflueger President spinning combo which included a 6'6" Pflueger IM- 8 graphite pole and Pflueger President spinning reel. He had 10 pound test line (braided) on the reel.
