Falcon golf finishes third

The 2007 A.C. Flora girls' golf team completed another outstanding season. After finishing as the runner- up in 2006, the Lady Falcons finished third in this year's State AAA Finals held in Debordieau, S.C. The Falcons compiled a 13- 3 record during the season in their matches as well as a fourth place finish in the Cavalier Invitational held in Spartanburg.

The team finished second in the Upper State Qualifier with a team score of 330, finishing behind eventual state champion Riverside by 12 strokes. Sophomore, Alex Van Dine was the medalist for the Falcons shooting and eight over par 80.

In the State Championship, the team total of 333 was just three strokes out of second place. The Falcons were led by eighth grader Collins Bradshaw who shot a two over par 74. Collins was named to the All State Team for the second consecutive season. Also chipping in with a seven over par 79 was Alex Van Dine.

The team loses four to graduation this June; Molly McKinney, Ann Tipton Lesslie, Sara Faulks, and Zoe Woodrum. It was these four that had the ambition to start the girl's golf team here only five years ago.

A solid nucleus of players returns for 2008 and expectations continue to grow for the Falcons.
