YMCA honors Jeep Rogers The Jeep Rogers Family YMCA opened its doors to members Saturday, November 3 at 8 am at 900 Lake Carolina Drive. The new facility is named after "Jeep" Rogers. Rogers was dedicated to the YMCA for 59 years, serving as physical director from 1944 until 1969 and executive director from 1969 until 2003. In 1995, Gov. David Beasley honored Rogers with the Order of the Palmetto for his outstanding service in the field of Physical fitness and recreation. In 2000, he was recognized at the national YMCA convention for holding the longest longevity record of any YMCA employee in the nation. Even more recently, upon Rogers' retirement, both Mayor Bob Coble and Gov. Mark Sanford declared December 31, 2004, as Jeep Rogers Day, in both the city of Columbia and the state of South Carolina further honoring Mr. Rogers.
