Heathwood Hall Intermediate/ Middle School student win youth fundraising award Student representatives from Heathwood Hall's Intermediate/Middle School received the Outstanding Youth Fundraising Group award November 15, 2007, from the Central Carolina Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). The United Way of the Midlands nominated Heathwood Hall in recognition of students' service during the annual United Way Day of Caring and to highlight the remarkable fundraising success of the Intermediate/Middle School's Turkey Trot- a- thon. Each fall semester, Heathwood eighth graders pitch in as United Way volunteers with the Day of Caring. This year, students did yard work at the Ronald McDonald House, assisted classroom teachers at the Arthurtown Child Development Center, planted flowers at the Babcock Center, and organized supplies at the Home Works warehouse. In 2005 and 2006, Heathwood fifth- eighth graders raised more than $26,000 for Harvest Hope Food Bank by soliciting per- mile donations and walking and jogging more than 2,300 collective miles around Heathwood's Woodward Track during the Turkey Trot- a- thons. This year's event raised another $8,000 for Harvest Hope. AFP honors individuals, corporations, and youth groups who make significant contributions to the betterment of the community. The youth fundraising award was presented at the National Philanthropy Day luncheon at the Brooklyn Banquet and Conference Center in West Columbia. |
