Richland One teachers earn National Board certification With the addition of 26 teachers who recently earned the prestigious distinction, Richland One now has the fifth highest number of National Board certified teachers in South Carolina. Twenty- six Richland One teachers are among the 650 new nationally- certified teachers statewide, bringing the district's total to 221. National Board certification is awarded through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and is the highest credential available in the teaching profession. Teachers go through a rigorous two- part process that takes one to three years to complete. The state awards a $7,500 annual salary supplement to teachers who achieve National Board certification. Richland One pays its National Board- certified teachers an additional $5,500 a year. Teachers receive the extra pay for every year they teach after achieving national certification for the 10- year life of their certificates.
