Robert Ellsworth Goodwin Sr.

Robert "Bobby" Ellsworth Goodwin Sr., affectionately known as "Poppy" to his grandchildren, died Sunday, December 2, 2007 at the age of 76. Born in Columbia on February 28, 1931, he was the younger son of the late Elmer Clinton Goodwin Sr. and Marie Young Goodwin. He was a 1950 graduate of Dreher High School, where he played on the varsity football team, and a graduate of the College of Lowell in Lowell, Massachusetts. Employed with Colite Industries for thirty- one years, he was the owner of Designer Graphic for fifteen years. Mr. Goodwin was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle, he is survived by his loving wife and high school sweetheart, Mary Rose Croom Goodwin; children: Debra Marie Riddick and her husband, John Gatling Riddick III of Mt. Pleasant; Robert E. Goodwin, Jr. and his wife Darlene Goodwin of Columbia; Pamela Goodwin Stephens and her husband Danny Stephens of Columbia; and Lisa Rose Goodwin and her loving partner of Columbia. Mr. Goodwin is also survived by his grandchildren: Whitney Goodwin Bouknight and her husband Heyward Harles Bouknight III of Charlotte, North Carolina; John Gatling Riddick IV of Mount Pleasant; Victoria Rose Goodwin of Tempe, Arizona; Meredith Leigh Riddick of Mount Pleasant; Nicole Julianne Goodwin of Columbia; and Gavin Ellsworth Goodwin of Columbia; and nephews, nieces, great- nephews and great- nieces. Mr. Goodwin was predeceased by his brother, Elmer Clinton Goodwin Jr.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at 11am at St. David's Episcopal Church, 605 Polo Road, with entombment in Elmwood Cemetery Mausoleum. Rev. Robert L. Chiles officiated. Pallbearers were sons- in- law John Gatling Riddick III and Danny Stephens; grandson John Gatling Riddick IV; brother- in- law Joseph E. Shealy; and nephews Glenn Robert Goodwin and Barry Phillip Goodwin.

Visitation was Tuesday, December 4, 7- 9 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. A reception was held for family and close friends after the funeral services at the home of Pam and Danny Stephens, 205 Horse Guards Lane, Columbia.
