Riverbanks to offer classes this spring It may be January, but it is never too early to think about sprucing up the garden for spring. The staff at Riverbanks Botanical Garden has developed a variety of classes to aid the aspiring gardener and continue educating the expert on several obstacles these passionate green thumbs may face. The Growing Garden Series is a set of seven classes with the first class beginning February 23. The Growing Garden Series costs $75 for the entire set or $15 for individual classes. The Growing Garden Series schedule • Tips for Gardening in Difficult Soil - February 23, 10 am- noon • Gardening for Wildlife - March 1, 10 am - noon • Shrubs for Foundations and Screens - March 8, 10am- noon • Rain Gardens - March 15, 10- 11:30 am • Shade Gardening - April 5, 10am- noon • Turf Grass - April 19, 10- 11:30 am • What To Do Now? - May 3, 10am- noon Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is located at I- 126 and Greystone Boulevard near downtown Columbia. The Botanical Garden entrance is located in West Columbia off Hwy. 378 at Botanical Parkway. Hours are 9 am- 5 pm, and admission is $9.75 for adults, $7.25 for children ages three- 12 and free for children under three.
