Skyhawks take two from Highlanders

The Hammond Skyhawks improved to 4- 0 in region play with a win over rival Heathwood Hall 59- 47 at Hammond Tuesday, January 22. Daniel Bailey led the Skyhawks with 23 points and Wilson McWilliams added 19 points.

Heathwood Hall got 17 points from Mac Whalen and 11 from Corey Littlejohn.

The Highlanders led 15- 12 at the end of the first quarter off Whalen's two three- pointers and nine total points. Littlejohn added six.

McWilliams exploded for ten points in the second quarter going 4- for- 4 from the free throw line and giving the Skyhawks a 25- 24 lead.

Bailey took over for the Skyhawks in the second half scoring 16 of his game high 23. He also went 6- for- 8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

The Hammond Skyhawks took an important step in region play by defeating league leading Heathwood Hall 41- 33 at Hammond Tuesday, January 22.

Lauren Smith led the Skyhawks with 12 points. Kaki Smith and Elaine Epting added 10 each.

Heathwood Hall's Asia Dozier led all scorers with 16 points. Kristen Dickerson added eight for the Highlanders.

Heathwood Hall jumped out to a 10- 6 first quarter lead, but the Skyhawks knotted the score at 17- 17 by halftime.

The Skyhawks built a 29- 25 third quarter lead with balanced scoring. Lauren Smith, Kaki Smith, and Epting all had four points.

Ali Hymson added a three- pointer and Sarah Prickett got four points in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
