Colonial Dames XVII Century holds the Annual Conference of S.C. Society, Colonial Dames 17th Century Mrs. Ronald J. Horton, South Carolina State President of Garden City, will preside at the Annual Conference of the South Carolina Society, Colonial Dames Seventeenth Century. The Conference will be held at the Clarion Townhouse in Columbia, February 15- 16, 2008 celebrating the society's 53rd year. Mrs. Emile J. Gex Jr., president general 2007- 2009 of Picayune, Miss., attend as an honored guest. Other guests attending will be Mrs. Mark Causey Jr., president, North Carolina Society, and honorary presidents general, Mrs. Douglas N. Swanson and Mrs. Frank P. Copeland, both of South Carolina. Entertainment for the Friday evening banquet will be the Main Street Harmonizers, a barbershop group from Columbia. On Saturday, deceased members will be honored at an Hour of Remembrance. Colonial Dames XVII Century, organized in 1915, is an organization of women who trace their lineal ancestry to a landholder, government or military official living in one of the original 13 colonies prior to 1701. Among the objectives of the society are preserving historic records and sites; fostering interest in historical colonial research; aiding in the education of our youth, commemorating the deeds of our ancestors and the founders of our Republic. Others include maintaining a Library of Heraldry, preserving the lineage and Coats of Arms of our Armorial Ancestors, and developing a library specializing in 17th century American colonial data.
