We can judge a man by his treatment of animals - Immanual Kant
By Mimi M.Maddock Mimi@TheColumbiaStar.com

Some people in the City of Columbia are setting traps for all animals that come in their yards, domestic or wild. For some people this seems to be a hobby. These trappers call Animal Services on a regular basis to collect animals. Below is a letter residents on Sunnyside Drive received from Animal Services because of the "trappers."

Dear Resident:

In response to a local citizen's request, a humane animal trap has been placed in this neighborhood by the City of Columbia, Animal Services.

Animals that are trapped are held at the Columbia Animal Shelter at 127 Humane Lane, off Shop Road. for five days. If the Superintendent of Animal Services determines they are sick, injured, or too wild to be safely and humanely handled, they may be euthanized before the five days are up.

If your pet is missing, please notify the shelter immediately at 776- 7387, and please visit the shelter to check for lost pets.

To ensure your pet's safety, please make certain it is always wearing a collar and an identification tag.

Please be aware the City: 1) has a leash law for dogs; 2) requires an annual pet license for dogs and cats; and 3) has ordinances prohibiting nuisance animals.

Please be a responsible and considerate pet owner. Please remember your pet depends entirely on you for its well being.

Call our office if we can help you with your pet/s in any way.

Sincerely,

Marli Drum

Superintendent

Thanks to Marli

Drum and her staf, this

letter warned neighbors

their pets may have been
