Skyhawks move to 9- 0 with win over Highlanders

Hammond's Daniel Bailey goes in for the basket against Heathwood Hall. Bailey had 18 points.
The Hammond Skyhawks improved to 9- 0 in region play with a 59- 42 victory over rival Heathwood Hall Friday, February 8. Daniel Bailey led the way with 18 points. Wilson McWilliams and A.D. Briggs added 11 points each for the Skyhawks.

Despite 22 points from Corey Littlejohn, the Highlanders fell behind early trailing

by eight at the end of one quarter of play and 10 at halftime. Morgan Whalen contributed 13 points, but no other Highlander got more than four. Meanwhile, six Skyhawks scored at least four points or more.

Bailey made five- of- six free throws in the fourth quarter and nine- of- 10 overall.

McWilliams got the Skyhawks going in the first quarter scoring eight of his 11 points. Cliff Ayers nailed a couple of three- point shots for Hammond.

Littlejohn shot sixof- seven from the free- throw line. The other Highlanders went three- for- 13.

The Skyhawks (13- 10, 9- 0) and Highlanders (13- 9, 4- 5) begin play in the region tournament this weekend at Ben Lippen School.

Hammond seniors Daniel Bailey and Wilson McWilliams were honored Tuesday, February 12 at Hammond for scoring over 1,700 and 1,000 points respectively over the course of their careers.
