USC NSDAR holds 51st anniversary luncheon

The University of South Carolina Chapter, NSDAR held its 51st anniversary luncheon at the Fort Jackson Officer's Club. The keynote speaker was S.C. State Regent Bonnie Scales Glasgow. Other speakers included S.C. State Historian Lucy Willis, USC Chapter Good Citizens Essay Award winner from Dreher High School Kathryn Craven Vickers, State President of the American Revolution Sagen Blackwell, and S.C. Representative of NSDAR 50- year club Betsy Knapp.

A special presentation of certificates from the National Society along with lifetime membership in the 50 Year Club were presented to chapter members who have belonged to NSDAR for 50 or 60 years. Present were Mrs. Louise (Olin S.) Pugh, Mrs. Grace (Louis J. Jr.) Bishop, Mrs. Julie (Copley H. Jr.) Smoak, Mrs. Julia (Walter Sr.) Langford, and Mrs. Sarah (Paul T.) Perkins.

Other members awarded certificates but unable to be present were Mrs. Martha (Bernard A. Daetwyler, Dr. Mary (Mrs. J. R. D.) Anderson, Mrs. Mary (Alvin) Strasburger, and Mrs. Josephine (Wade T. Jr.) Batson.

The University of South Carolina Chapter, NSDAR, was founded in Columbia in 1957 by Dr. Irene Dillard Elliott.
