The Heathwood Hall Lady Highlanders' incredible run finally came to an end at the Sumter County Exhibition Center Saturday, March 1 at the hands of the three- time defending champion Hilton Head Prep Dolphins. Eighth grade phenom Asia Dosier was held to seven points and the Highlanders fell 35- 25 in their first ever state title appearance. Kristen Dickerson was the bright spot for Heathwood Hall scoring 14 points.
Despite the loss, there is reason for pride and optimism at the end of Beltline Boulevard. The Highlanders finished at 30- 4 winning a share of the SCISA 2- 3A regular season title. They won the region tournament title and were riding an 11- game win streak when they reached Saturday's final. Incredibly, the team consists of five juniors, five sophomores, and one very good eighth grader. If Coach Jack Warren keeps this team together, it should be a force next season.
