Children need food during the summer
Contributed by Richland School District One

Richland One is looking for organizations in the community to serve as designated sites where children can go this summer to get a free lunch, perhaps the only nutritious meal some families will be able to afford for their children.

Churches, community centers, city and county parks, nonprofit agencies and summer programs that would like to serve as meal sites in the Seamless Summer Program are encouraged to apply by April 25, 2008. Organizations that provide a summer camp or program for children also may be eligible to receive free meals for their participants.

From June 2- August 7 the federally- funded Seamless Summer Program offers a nutritious lunch and snack to any child at no cost to parents. Children simply go to any of the designated sites and ask for a meal.

Richland One is encouraging as many organizations as possible to take advantage of this opportunity. Simply visit www. richlandone.org, download the application, complete it and fax to Richland One Student Nutrition Services at (803) 231-6962 or mail it to Richland One Student and Nutrition Services, 201 Park Street, Columbia, SC 29201.

Orientation sessions for program participants will he held in May. Contact Student Nutrition Services at 231-6953.
