Midlands Math and Business Academy selects 2008 Teacher of the Year

Gerald Jenkins of Midlands Math and Business Academy was selected 2008 Teacher of the Year for the school.

Jenkins is the son of Larry D. and the late Shirley Parker. He is married to Shavorn M. Simmons Jenkins. He was raised in Ruffin, SC and attended Bells Elementary, Smoaks Middle and Ruffin High School.

After graduating from Ruffin High in 1996, Jenkins received a BA degree from Claflin University in 2002 and an MA in Individual and Family Development from South Carolina State University in 2005.

In 2006, the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship awarded Gerald with certification to teach entrepreneurship classes. He is a certified trainer with South Carolina First Steps. In 2006, Jenkins attended the Core Knowledge Leadership Institute and returned as the curriculum coordinator for Midlands Math and Business Academy.

Jenkins has directed the Trinity United Methodist Church Learning Center and has behavior analysis training with the South Carolina Autism Project.

Currently, he is the curriculum coordinator, entrepreneurship teacher and FBLA(Future Business Leaders of America) advisor for Midlands Math and Business Academy.

Jenkins is the youth director for Faith Tabernacle, Orangeburg, SC, and Bishop R. E. Brown, pastor.

He also has been nominated for YES Carolina Entrepreneurship Teacher of the Year from 2007- 2008.
