Congratulations Richland One Scholars

Eleven Richland One students have been named finalists in the prestigious and highly competitive 2008 National Merit Program, which awards college scholarships to academically gifted students. Students will be notified of scholarship decisions this spring.
The district congratulates the following students for their selection as finalists:

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and college scholarships. Finalists are chosen based on high scores on the PSAT, academic achievement, teacher recommendations and other strict criteria. There are three types of awards: National Merit $2,500 scholarships that are single- payment awards; corporate-sponsored Merit/Achievement awards that may be renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study or one- time awards; and college- sponsored Merit Scholarship awards that are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study.
Two Richland One students have won college scholarships through the 2008 National Achievement Scholarship Program. They will be awarded $2,500 college scholarships this spring.
Columbia High School • Geneena G. Donaldson W. J. Keenan High School • Alexx E. Niblock The honor recognizes outstanding African- American high school seniors who are the highest scorers in their state on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Winners must have a record of high academic performance in high school, be endorsed and recommended by the school principal, earn high SAT scores and be actively involved in his or her school and community.
