Spring Valley High School news
Spring Valley High School Sophomore Shawn McKinney won medalist honors for the SV Invitational Pre- Season Golf Tournament. Shawn shot a 74 in very windy conditions to beat 120 golfers representing 24 high schools from around the state.

The Spring Valley High School Math Team placed 2nd Place in the Division 1 Schools (North and South Carolina and Georgia) and went home with a tall, purple, four- corner column trophy. David Harry Richman received a plaque for scoring 3rd place on the Written Exam portion. The students participating were Valentin Lazar, D. Harry Richman, Jacob Baker, Peter Rassolov, Vladimir Plotkin, and Jessie Ge.

SVHS student Trevor Auman had a perfect score of 36 on the ACT. He is the only South Carolina student and one of 56 in the nation, out of some 300,000 students who took the test in February, to score a perfect score.

Spring Valley's Vikings Air Force JROTC Viking Drill Team won the 2008 Flying Gamecock Invitational Drill Championship (Air Force State Drill Meet) for the 23rd consecutive year at USC on Saturday, March 22, 2008. The team defeated South Carolina Air Force JROTC schools throughout the State to claim top honors. In winning the overall best Air Force Drill Team in the State, they placed first in (9) nine events and 2nd in (1) one event. Sports Network Internationals honored the Spring Valley's Viking Air Force JROTC Award Winning Drill Team on March 29, 2008, in Macon, Georgia. Twenty- one certificates of excellence, 21 gold Air Force National medallions, three trophies and one plaque was awarded for demonstrated skills, superior self- discipline, commitment to teamwork, and long hours of practice that resulted in an impressive win on and off the drill floor. The team placed within the top 8% of competing high schools nationally. Cadet Major Joe Martin placed third as the Best Cadet Commander in the country. Other awards included 3rd in fancy flight and color guard. The drill team commander is cadet Lt. Col. Breanna Beckford, and they are coached by Chief Master Sergeant Perry Langston and Major Frank Ward is the AF JROTC Commander.
