Group performs to support human rights
Heading up the program at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall was the band Another Dimension. After Camara spoke to the audience, he led a drumming session. The African Awareness Workgroup strives to educate the community about the human rights violations and the massive poverty in many of the countries of Africa, while dispelling myths about the continent, and holding true to the beauty of the cultures that make each country different. The workgroup puts on events periodically, and would love volunteers. The next event will be May 25 at 4 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. The focus will be on Mali. Guest speakers will include three Peace Corps volunteers who served in Mali. For more information on this event, or if you would like to get involved, email Julie Lee at africa@carolinapeace. org. |
