Winners of Archibald Rutledge College scholarships

Four students have won a challenging statewide competition to be named as this year's recipients of Archibald Rutledge College Scholarships worth about $4,000 each.

The Columbia competition was the culmination of a statewide selection process. Winners from the Midlands were

Creative writing • First alternate: Danielle Scheuer, Richland Northeast High School, Richland Two

Drama • Winner: Melissa Frierson, Spring Valley High School, Richland Two

Music • Winner: John Lawrence McElyea, Spring Valley High School, Richland Two

Visual Arts • Winner: Catherine McKenna Brandon, Richland Northeast High School,
